Put your school firmly on the map with a concrete vision

“You feel it the moment you walk in: there is energy about the place. You notice it in the way people look at you, in how they move and in how they treat one another.” (quoted from Kus de visie wakker, 2010)

To build a school organisation like the one in the quote above, you need a clear vision and a clear identity. Research shows that successful Dutch managers believe a vision is necessary for their organisation, and more than three quarters consider it essential because it provides a clear focus. For the site director or deputy head in secondary education (VO) it is no different. A clear vision matters. Translating that vision concretely to your own site is what makes the difference. The programme described below offers practical ways to make the vision concrete and to bring it to life in the school.

At many secondary schools, site directors are asking themselves:

  • Do you want a vision that is genuinely shared across the school?
  • Do you want a professional culture in your school?
  • Do you want to take the lead while giving your staff a clear role of their own?
  • Do you need a clear profile and public image for the school?
  • Do you need a clear strategy for internal and external communication?

This programme delivers those things with you, in your school. It is aimed at the site director or deputy head, because they are the people who meet these themes in the daily practice of the school and who are responsible for putting them into effect. The programme makes room for reflection and for feedback from colleagues, and it also draws on important input from your own organisation. The whole programme is guided by two experienced consultants with a strong background in secondary education.
